The Perfect Summer Pairing: Natura Rosé and Sushi

Sushi is one of those foods that you either love or hate. There’s usually not much of a middle ground. But for those of us who love it, we really love it! And we also know that there’s an amazing variety of sushi rolls out there just waiting to be enjoyed this summer, along with exceptional green wines, such as Natura rosé, that pair perfectly with these Asian creations! Here are some of the best combos we’ve found:

Green Wines | Natura Wines

Salmon roll + dry rosé. Salmon rolls are known for their beautiful pink colors, and so is Natura rosé – it’s the perfect combination! Aside from coloring, though, this pairing is ideal because the rich flavors of the salmon balance the tartness of the wine’s cherry and citrus, resulting in a fabulous sweet and briny taste.

Unagi + dry Chardonnay. Unagi, or eel, is similar to salmon in that is known for its smoky, fatty, and sweet flavor. Because this flavor profile is so complex, it needs a crisp, dry wine to lighten the taste. A dry Chardonnay does the job nicely, as it has enough acidity to challenge the strong flavors of the eel.

Spicy tuna roll + Chardonnay. It’s Chardonnay again! Suffice it to say, if you’re going to enjoy sushi regularly, Chardonnay is almost always a safe bet. With a spicy tuna roll, the Chardonnay offers the full-bodied flavor and sweetness necessary to hold its own against this meaty fish.

Uni + Pinot Gris. Better known as sea urchin, uni rolls call for a minerally white, such as a fine Pinot Gris. Uni has a very strong flavor that is both earthy and gamey, and admittedly it’s not a taste everyone loves. If you do enjoy this delicacy, however, the Pinot Gris is your best choice for wine pairing, as this acidic white has its own hint of earthiness.

  • Shrimp nigiri + Pinot Gris. Pinot Gris also pairs nicely with shrimp nigiri, which has a somewhat sweet flavor, with just a hint of citrus. These tastes complement the aromatic stone fruit in the Pinot Gris, bringing you a delightfully sweet and almost playful flavor.

Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’re headed to the nearest sushi bar to try these!
